SRM 1.0

Synology Router Manager (SRM) is the operating system that powers the Synology Router. With the friendly interface, it makes managing your network and Wi-Fi settings super simple, while delivering robust tools for power users and professionals.

Overview

Goal

Create a user-friendly configuration experience on the router, facilitating the network configuration for both personal and business users.

My Role

I worked with the product manager from September to December in 2015, designing the user interface for Synology’s first router.

Challenge

After researching the routers on the market, we have discovered most of the routers present the configurations in a basic way, without the consideration of user’s understanding and experiences. This confuses most of the personal or home users. Therefore, the main idea of our design would be the visual presentation, making sure all configurations are easy to understand. By inheriting the success of DSM, we changed the traditional way of configuring a router page by page. This makes SRM the first one with desktop design, providing the similar experience of using the laptop.

Provide different network configuration interface

Synology Router Manager (SRM) is a powerful operating system designed for Synology networking products. The intuitive interface makes network management easy for power users and professional ITs.

Network Center

Network Center is the main application on SRM, allowing users to monitor the status of wired/wireless network, CPU and memory usage. Users can also audit the network status of devices connected to Synology Router.

Parental Control

Provide the comprehensive network monitor and web filter to further control the device access time and usage history. We designed the visual timeline displaying the network allowance of each device, along with the lock icons in different color presenting the filter level.

Storage & Print

By connecting an external storage device to Synology Router, you will be able to share its disk capacity through a system-created shared folder named as usbshare.
